Shipping is the part of the Oopbuy journey where most first-time buyers lose money. The product cost is easy to control — you just stick to the best Oopbuy spreadsheet — but shipping prices, timing and customs are full of small choices that decide whether your parcel arrives quickly and cheaply or sits in transit for a month. This guide explains every variable so you can ship like a pro from your very first order.
How Oopbuy shipping works
Every item you buy goes to Oopbuy’s main warehouse. Once you approve QC, you submit a shipping request. Oopbuy weighs the combined parcel and presents you with a list of shipping lines, each with a different price, ETA and customs profile. You pick one, pay, and a tracking number is generated.
The main shipping lines and what they’re best for
EMS / EUB / Yanwen
Best for general parcels under 5 kg. Reasonable prices, decent tracking and a low customs hit rate for most EU and US destinations.
DHL / FedEx / UPS Express
Fastest option — 3–7 days door to door. Expensive per kilo but worth it for time-sensitive orders or high-value items where insurance matters.
Sea freight
Cheapest per kilo, but 30–60 days transit. Use only for very heavy parcels (10 kg+) or when you have time to wait.
Combine shipping — the single biggest money saver
Never ship items one at a time. Combining 4–6 products into one parcel cuts the per-item shipping cost dramatically because most lines have a high base fee plus a small per-kg increment. The longer you wait to combine ship, the more you save — Oopbuy stores items in your warehouse free for 90 days.
Real example: shipping 5 small items separately via EMS would cost ~$120. Combined into one parcel, the same items shipped for $34.
Customs: how to avoid surprise fees
- Declare honestly but smartly — overpriced declarations trigger duties; underdeclared items can be seized.
- Pick lines with prepaid duty for the US and EU when you can — you pay one final price up front.
- Avoid branded keywords in the declaration form. Use generic descriptions (“sneakers”, “leather bag”).
Shipping insurance — is it worth it?
For parcels under $100 you can usually skip it. For anything above $200 or with delicate items like perfume or watches, the 3% insurance fee is well spent — Oopbuy will refund a lost or damaged parcel within 30 days.
Shipping timing tips
- Submit shipping requests early in the week (Mon–Wed) so they leave the warehouse before the weekend.
- Avoid the Chinese New Year window (mid-Jan to early-Feb) — customs delays double.
- Track your parcel daily. If it stops moving for 5+ days, open a ticket — Oopbuy support can push the line operator.
